Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
Peter’s Declaration about Jesus
The solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary time. This Sunday, we are solemnly honouring Sts Peter and Paul, “Apostles of Christ, pillars and foundations of the city of God”, as today’s liturgy sings. The two Apostles gave their supreme witness close to each other in time and place: in Rome, St Peter was crucified and afterwards St Paul was decapitated. “Neither death, nor life”, Paul wrote to the Romans, “nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (8:38-39). This is the very foundation of Paul’s faith and existence and is for every follower of Christ. A love that urges all the times of the day. Happy Feast.
